The abortion debate is a very intense and emotional one. People come up with a variety of reasons as to why it should or shouldn’t be illegal. Some use the bible as evidence, when there is no real passage in the bible against abortion, but use the “thou shalt not kill” marking the unborn fetus as a human life worth protection. Others say that while murder is wrong, an unborn child is not actually a child yet, as it can sustain life outside of the womb, and thus should not create an undue burden on the mother. Some feel that abortion is acceptable and necessary in the case of defects, health risks, and rape, while others feel abortion should never be permitted at all.

Personally, my stance on abortion is that abortion is an unnecessary option (for most women). Most people find this interesting that as an Atheist and someone who fights for people rights (women’s, children’s and LGBT rights…) that being against abortion would be counterproductive to my beliefs. The reality is however, that I fight for rights….and that includes the rights of innocent children, whether it is an unborn baby incapable of surviving on its own, the rights of women trapped in proverbial hell in the male dominated world of the middle east, or the rights of two men wishing to get married.

I am however not about to say that everything in life is black and white. There is a grey area in all aspects and that includes abortion. I believe that abortions should be regulated on a case by case basis. Medically necessary abortions are well plain and frank necessary. In my opinion, telling a women she should risk death, on the off chance that she and her baby *might* survive is ridiculous. I however have difficulty pinning down my position on rape and incest. This is something I have no experience with luckily, and I cannot even begin to tell a woman what she needs to do after being violated so horrifically. My mind and heart want to say, that even still it should be found morally wrong, because you are punishing the wrong being, but I cannot force myself to believe this in forcing a different punishment on someone already victimized.

This is not a Bible Thumping Post (Almost unbelievable but true)

I thought I understood the Right to Life, then I quite by accident stumbled onto this movie. The understanding went from the horror of murder of innocents, to anger at the instigation of that murder by monied interests. I'd suggest looking at the trailer, then listening to the podcasts.

Excerpt:(CNSNews.com) – Abortion kills more black Americans than the seven leading causes of death combined, according to data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 2005, the latest year for which the abortion numbers are available.

Abortion killed at least 203,991 blacks in the 36 states and two cities (New York City and the District of Columbia) that reported abortions by race in 2005, according to the CDC. During that same year, according to the CDC, a total of 198,385 blacks nationwide died from heart disease, cancer, strokes, accidents, diabetes, homicide, and chronic lower respiratory diseases combined. These were the seven leading causes of death for black Americans that year.

Chandra-

Above you said that you had a hard time pinning down your stance on abortion in relation to rape and incest. In my last philosophy class, one of my classmates believed that abortion was very black and white. He was quite conservative and thought that no matter what if a woman gets pregnant, it is because God intended her to carry that child and for it to live on this earth. I am against abortion, but to me this sounded so extreme. A girl in my class asked him about the topic of rape and incest and he still held his ground saying that God put that baby there and it was not our right to end it's life.

What do you think?

Molly,

I just can't begin to put myself in that position. I've never experienced such a tragedy and while I have my opinions they are based on my own experiences. I don't know if I could live with my rapist's baby, and because of this, I can't fathom forcing another women to either, even if my stance is pro life,,,,,

"This is not a Bible Thumping Post (Almost unbelievable but true)"

Well you're right about that. It isn't a Bible post, but a racist post.

Let's see, what was that verse when Jesus said, "An eye for an eye, a lie for a lie, a theft for a theft, and a death for a death."?

Surely it is only fair that for every black that dies a white should also die. But then again, since black are still deamed a minority, for every black that dies, 2 whites should be put to death. But since we likes dem white womens, let's make it 2 white mens. It's only fair.

I realize that you are only a literalist and thus have no understanding of Jesus at all, but you can probably remember off the top of your head Jesus' proclamations concerning racism. We certainly can't believe that we love God if we don't hate those who oppose our race.

If you're referring to the Bible here, you have to pause and realize that it never mentions different races...we are all one race: the human race, which just comes in various "hues" of the same color; some have more pigment and some have less pigment. After all, we all came from Noah and his wife and their 3 sons (and wives)...taking it further back, we all came from Adam and his wife, Eve...so physically, we are all related (whether we like it or not). Spiritually we are (only) 2 kinds (or groups): children of God ...or not children of God (or as Jesus said, "You are of your father, the devil").

And if I remember correctly, Planned Parenthood was started by someone who wanted to use it to eliminate black babies...the racist Margaret Sanger. (I think I recall that correctly.)

"If you're referring to the Bible here, you have to pause and realize that it never mentions different races"

Exactly!

"Planned Parenthood was started by someone who wanted to use it to eliminate black babies...the racist Margaret Sanger."

And exactly WHO told you that? The same people who tell you that there is no God perhaps?

Pull back the curtain to see who is pulling your strings of information, and who do you expect to find? Certainly not God, Jesus, or Science.
Jeff H Comment by Jeff H on November 16, 2009 at 10:01am
1st to James. It isn't a racist post, its a post about racism, and a post that considers evil it horrific. It as an anti-racist post.

I'll correct you both and with the obsevation that the Greek word "Ethnos" (sound familiar- Ethnic Group) is used 164 times in the NT, broken down as follows: Gentiles 93, nation 64, heathen 5, people 2

The scripture most easily translated "In the last days nation will arise against nation" uses the word ethnos. Change to to "In the last days, Ethnicity will war against another Ethnicity(ies)" and it sheds a new light.

So now you have information that people (Not just white, if you listened to the podcasts you're hip to Jessie Jackson's transformation) did and are continuing to pursue this practice of Genocide. I'm telling people about it, and getting called racist, (Usually by people who only scan the info). I have and continue to financially support crisis pregnancy centers locally. I've voted anti-abortion all my life.

What are you going to do about it?
Chandra Fudge Comment by Chandra Fudge on November 16, 2009 at 12:27pm
I'm am not going to get into a racism debate.

However, on the comment of Margaret Sanger, being a racist, this is so far from truth. Margaret Sanger was the pioneer for birth control rights in this country. She worked mostly with the poor minority this is true, but it wasn't racially motivated and she did not have ill intentions. She saw women getting pregnant over and over again, who did not want to be pregnant because they couldn't afford too, and were not able to take care of the child and would choose self induced abortions that were very dangerous and risky, not to mention very illegal, all because birth control was illegal. She dealt with jail, her clinics being raided and having to flee the country for two years after being threatened with a 45 year prison term because of a magazine that while obeyed the letter of the law, was considered to be giving out information on birth control.

Chandra

You’re right in describing that we live more in the area of grey than the black and white.

Emotions, circumstances, situations, physical, and especially mental health of the ultimate decision makers, I believe are sacrosanct and so should not be hijacked by outside opinions.

Well said.
