Was there a time you began to question?

Lynn- I think anytime something bad happens (i.e. the death of a family member) we all begin to question God. How could something like this happen? Why didn't You stop it? etc. I think it is only na…

Why is the bible God male?

I have often wondered this myself. Do you think it dates back to the Adam and Eve days? Adam was made from God and Eve was a "copy" of Adam. Adam seems to be more prominent than Eve because he came d…

Molly, I think young girls are in an impossible situation when they get pregnant. Our society tells them that it is not ok to be pregnant, and it is totally looked down upon, but yet if you get an abortion than that is horrible! what are they suppos…

Chandra/Lori- I too did a study on abstinence vs. safe sex education and you are right, abstinence preaching does not work. As much as I would like it to, it does not for the majority. Kids are going to make their own decisions/mistakes and are not…

Jim- You bring up a good point however you are missing one big piece in the topic of life on this earth as a Christian. Yes, the end goal is to go to Heaven. However, God wants us to experience life on this earth so we are able to mature and develo…

No. I may feel very strongly about my views, but I am not ruthless and mean. I could preach my opinion all day long, but I don't infringe on other people's rights. With that said, if I had a friend that was considering abortion, and asked my opinion…

I agree that teens need more support, but we have come a long way. My aunt got pregnant in high school, which was back in the 1960s. It was so highly looked down upon in those days, so my grandparents sent her away to a "camp" until she had the baby…

I really enjoyed this unit because it discussed topics that I am really passionate about. From this unit I learned that some people do not want to take responsibility for their mistakes, but rather just find a quick, easy way out. I also learned that there are few conservative viewpoints towards abortion in my generation. We are generation X and we want a pill or our mommy to fix all the problems we get ourselves into. Sometimes our attitude of “entitlement” just ticks me off!

Individuals need… Continue

Religion and Human Origins-Blog #2 (PH214)

"Life so understood can be frustrated in two main ways. It can be frustrated by premature death, which leaves any previous natural and personal investment unrealized. Or it can be by other forms of failure: by handicaps or poverty or misconceived projects...any one of these may in different ways frustrate a person's opportunity to redeem his ambition or otherwise to lead a full and flourishing life" (Stewart 303).

To me, this statement raises the question: is it better to live a challenging, ha… Continue

Religion and Human Origins-Blog #1 (PH 214)

"There is no commandment that says, 'Thou shalt not commit abortion.' So those looking for scriptural guidance for their views have to look for more indirect guidance. There is, of course, the sixth commandment, which, in its Jewish version says, 'You shall not commit murder' and in its Catholic and Protestant version says, 'You shall not kill' (Stewart 300).

According to Merriam-Webster murder is defined as:

1.) to kill a (human being) with unlawfully and with premeditated malice
2.) to put a… Continue

Religion and World Origins-Final Blog (PH 214)

From this unit I learned quite a few things:

1.) Intuition and intellect work best when utilized together. However, in modern day, we are taught to evaluate based on reason rather than what our senses are telling us. I think we are selling ourselves short by minimally using the instincts/senses we were born with.

2.) Many atheists do not think there has to be a God in order for life to have purpose. I think many of them might say that religion is a crutch for us to justify actions and to look… Continue
