I recently found a book, Alphatudes - the alphabet of gratitude, which does a great job of both explaining the value of gratitude as a spiritual practice AND inspiring people wanting to practice it. Do you all practice gratitude?

Katinka, you ask: "Is God Omniscient ? If so, do we have free will?"

It is questions like yours which prompted me, years ago, to stop thinking of GOD as a being, even a super being. GOD is not a noun, or anything to which one can point.

G--all possible and potential Goodness
O--the Oneness and Order of all that IS
D--all that is Desirable.

Eckhart Tolle, in his book, The Power of NOW, makes the same point when he says that God is Being. He make little use of the word 'God' because of this problem.

When thinking in terms of philosophy, science and art, I like using the symbol, 'GØD' .

The use of the null--that is, the Ø, the set [ . ] without numbers, 1/0--indicates that all that is imaginable is possible. The infinitely micro and macro. I think of the cosmos as in 'GØD'. As Jesus said, "With God all things are possible."
Yes, when I quote I use 'God'
BTW, Orthodox Jews, for reasons similar to mine, write the divine name 'G-d'.

Do I pray to GOD and ask "him/her" for favours?
No, I tune in to and connect with Infinite Being. Then things seem to happen.

alien contact: psychics?

I'm wondering what you all think of contact with aliens. Is it a form of clairvoyance? If so, does that mean that aliens are not on the physical plane at all? Can they be seen by everybody?

What's the origin of Evil? - of sorrow? of suffering? of inequality?

The eternal existential question has been asked, in the West, usually as: 'What is the origin (or cause) of evil?'.

In Buddhism the question is asked differently - and that leads to different types of answers: What's the cause of suffering? Susanna asked in her version of this question: what about justice? aren't ethics important?.

I'd like to go one metaphysical step… Continue

Esoteric Christianity - integrating occultism into mainstream religion...

Esoteric Christianity is becoming more popular. It is a combination of belief in Jesus as a VERY special messenger and New Age beliefs like karma and reincarnation. People usually also believe in healing, aura reading and things like that. Examples of teachers of Esoteric Christianity are Rudolf Steiner and Edgar Cayce.

I wo… Continue

Jeff, I must ask myself why, as you say, people are worshiping science. Can they not find frameworks, mystery, hope and challenge in spirituality? Fortunately, it is not necessary that everyone descend into extreme addiction (vice) to develop profo…

Given these "problems" with the Bible, if the God of the Bible is the God of reality (as I believe He is), I do not wonder at all about His reasons for bringing forth the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is the anchor of my faith in Jesus Christ.…

Goodmorning Kernal, Over a year ago there was a very strident debate between a mormon and I. It was ugly, and I learned from it. I mispoke earlier when I refered to this thread, I meant this topic. You'll note I haven't participated much. I don't w…

Kernal, you're a might full of yourself there bud. I didn't bring this thread back to life, and have resisted jumping into another me vs. mormon debate. Just not worth the trouble. I guess I've grown up a little in my time on RG, even at 49 years.…

Here is how I see it. We are spiritual beings having a mortal experience. Currently our physical body and our spirit body are inseparably connected until our physical body dies, when we will leave our physical body. I am unable to physically detect…
