Redefine God - Open Source Religion and Religion 2.0

The Open Source Religion & Spirituality Project and Religion 2.0

If we’re undecided, is it best to try to believe in God or not to try?

Best to try…
'Pascal's Wager' is a suggestion posed by the French philosopher Blaise Pascal that even though the existence of God cannot be determined through reason, a person should wager as though God exists, because so living has everything to gain, and nothing to lose.

Or

Best not to try?
Richard Dawkins argues for an "anti-Pascal wager" in his book, The God Delusion. "Suppose we grant that there is indeed some small chance that God exists. Nevertheless, it could be said that you will lead a better, fuller life if you bet on his not existing, than if you bet on his existing and therefore squander your precious time on worshipping him, sacrificing to him, fighting and dying for him, etc."

Actually, if you think about it... If I by grace or happenstance happen to have latched on to the Power that Created the Universe, It's the biggest box there is. Some feel confined by gravity. If you decide to consider yourself liberated of it... or feel it is too "small box" I would recommend against exercising your independence from it. That typically doesn't end well.

In the same way many consider the fact there is a Sovereign that they are accountable to confining. They choose to ignore it. It doesn't make the truth go away any more then ignoring gravity suspends it's effect. It typically makes the result all the more tragic.

Actually, I believe God to be Infinite, so everything else would be a subset of that. That point however is made moot by the proclamation of Christ that HE was the way

The best example I can thing of is we are surrounded by mountains. All of them have peaks above the clouds, (in this case the clouds are death). Jesus put a sign at the bottom of one, and called it THE mountain to climb to everlasting life, yet people are free to choose. Everyone climbs a mountain, even those who chose the mountain of "there is no mountain" find themselves eventually at the top. As we pass through the clouds, we will either find a grand vista, or not. We don't get a second climb, the first is the life's work no manner how long or short it has been. That isn't to say we can change mountains before the cloudline. Sometimes a person just gets their feet on the base of a mountain, when the clouds come down to meet them, and they barely climb before they get break through. The result is the same...Grand Vista, or not.

As I have climbed my mountain, I have found many signs and evidences along the way that it is the right mountain. I have found myself empowered during the harder parts. There are places where there were landslides that somehow went around me. I am enjoying the climb immensely, a don't fear the cloudline. It took most of my life, but I have found my footing on the right mountain (thanks God).

That's the sum of the wager... what's now plus what's next... I like my odds.

Nope, not as easy as you thought. The whole purpose of the Old Testament was to prepare for and point towards Christ. Jesus' sacrifice reached forward to us who know of Jesus, and backwards to those to hoped for Him. Read Hebrews as a refresher course.

There are saved and unsaved people in both Baptist and Catholic pews... God handles that department.

Way over my pay grade and clearance. :-)

Interesting. 'I', 'me', 'Self' ???

Regarding noology...

Buddhi: A higher level intuitive intelligence than the rational mind, that which knows.
Chitta: The 'Seer'. The sense that makes sense of all other senses. Sense of awareness and sense of being (of all physical and mental states).
Ahmakar: The ego-sense (or sense of individuality).

Only you can decide and thereafter speak for yourselves.

Therein lies yet another rub.... Sid has made it clear that the Source Code holds is amoral, as morals are a human constructs.

This is the definition as it stands now. I don't agree with it, but then again that's why we're all here. I've this was just a party boat with a destination already laid in, it wouldn't be worth the effort.

It's an OPEN religion. Therefor it must be devoid of moral parameters.

Sid goes on to state that morals are the up to the individual.

Do Good and avoid evil are both concepts I concur with, but not part of OSR at this time.

In that regard I agree with Sid. “OSR has never been a method to obtain "goodness". For one, goodness is subjective all the world round.

Jeff, I must ask myself why, as you say, people are worshiping science. Can they not find frameworks, mystery, hope and challenge in spirituality? Fortunately, it is not necessary that everyone descend into extreme addiction (vice) to develop profo…

Given these "problems" with the Bible, if the God of the Bible is the God of reality (as I believe He is), I do not wonder at all about His reasons for bringing forth the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is the anchor of my faith in Jesus Christ.…
